Continuing UPIC Health’s close relationship with N Street Village in Washington, D.C., several employees participated in the Friends and Family Day on April 21.

UPIC employees joined another 50+ volunteers (including three village pet ambassadors) to clean up, weed and replant the courtyard garden with veggies, including cabbage, broccoli, peppers, kale, and all kinds of fresh herbs. Volunteers also planted flowers in the boxes that line Vermont Ave. and N Street Village Way. After the work was complete, volunteers were treated to an ice cream social.

Trainer/Quality Analyst, Jennifer Redus, and Chief Marketing Officer, Juli Briskman brought their children to join the fun and were met by CEO, Mary Tucker.

“The day was bright and full of hope, much like N Street Village itself,” said Tucker.  “We were joined by so many volunteers motivated by compassion and empathy. It was very inspiring.”

UPIC supports participation in events like this because we believe volunteerism is the foundation of healthy communities.  The privilege to serve the women of N street perfectly aligns with UPIC’s mission to provide equitable and meaningful opportunities for women. Working with these women only deepens our resolve, Tucker added.

“It also was good to expose my kids to this so they can appreciate everything they have and understand that they can make a difference,” said Briskman.  “The ice cream social at the end didn’t hurt!”

The Briskman kids cut grass by hand, helped weed, and tied up the daffodils that were finished blooming for the season.
